Commercial ports
The commercial ports of the Côtes d’Armor fall into two categories :
- The general cargo ports : Saint-Brieuc Le Légué and Tréguier
These ports ensure the flow of general cargo imports and exports to and from their respective hinterlands.
Principal imports include agricultural products and animal feedstuffs (fertilisers, rapeseed feedcake…) and sawn timber. Quarry products (china clay and fireclay) and scrap metal make up most of the tonnage exported. These cargo flows, generally to and from northern and southern Europe, are maintained by short sea vessels of between 1500 to 4000DWT.
Both ports have ISPS security accreditation.
- Sand and aggregate ports : Pontrieux and Lézardrieux
Sand and marl dredged from offshore seabed deposits are discharged in these ports by dredgers.
The Côtes d’Armor C.C.I. also manages :
- The Island of Bréhat freight service (The Bréhat Barge Service)
- The port of Arcouest (on the mainland) and Port Clos (on Bréhat), used by the Vedettes de Bréhat passenger service.
